WHAT IS ANZAC DAY?
ANZAC DAY is on April 25 th. It is a special day. It’s when we commemorate the soldiers who fought for our country.
WHY DO WE WEAR POPPIES?
We wear poppies to remember the soldiers who died in Gallipoli and in other wars. Poppies mainly grow in Flanders Fields. They were the the first flowers to grow in there. The ones we wear now were designed by ladies in France whose husbands died in the war.
WHAT HAPPENED?
When the ANZACS went to Gallipoli the Turks were hiding on high hills and shot the ANZACS as they landed. Hundreds and thousands of soldiers died. At the end they stopped fighting when the ANZACS lost too many.
